According to reliable sources, Apple is working on a new sixth-generation iPad mini. With a release reportedly in the works, we want to take you through the best reasons to wait for the iPad mini 6 and the best reasons to skip it and go with something else.
If you’re on the hunt for a new iPad in 2021, you’ve got a lot of options.
Last year, Apple released new iPad Pro models and they come with an assortment of enticing upgrades. The company’s 2018 iPad Pro models are also excellent and they’re also much cheaper than they once were.
You should also check out the new iPad Air 4, new eighth-generation iPad, 10.2-inch iPad, 2019 iPad Air, and the iPad mini 5. We’ve seen some significant price cuts on the latter three and they’re worth a look if you’re interested in buying a new tablet.
You might’ve heard that Apple might be cooking up additional iPads. The list reportedly includes a high-end iPad Pro and a new iPad mini 6.
iPad mini 6 Rumors
Respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple is planning to launch a brand new iPad mini. He initially thought the device would arrive before the end of 2020, but that’s changed.
Kuo’s backtracked and now says that Apple hardware with mini-LED technology, the same tech that’s supposedly on board the iPad mini 6, will arrive in 2021.
A newer research note from Kuo backs this up. The analyst claims a new version of the iPad mini should launch sometime in the first half of 2021. An even newer note suggests the same.
Korean outlet ETNews reports that LG is set to supply Apple with the mini-LED displays for new iPads. It claims the new iPads will launch in Q1 2021.
Japanese blog Mac Otakara believes the new iPad mini 6 will launch in March alongside the new iPad Pro.
A reputable source claims Apple’s March event will actually take place on March 23rd though Apple hasn’t confirmed those details yet.
A separate report claims Apple will confirm an event on March 23rd with the product announcements coming a bit later in the month on March 30th.
Plot twist: invites are coming on March 23 for Apple’s March 30 event.

In a video from February, Gurman outlines Apple’s plans for 2021. And while he mentions the new iPad Pro and a budget iPad, he doesn’t mention a new iPad mini.
A recent report from hit-or-miss publication Digitimes says Apple’s new iPad Pro will arrive in Q2 which means sometime after April 1st. The report doesn’t mention the iPad mini.
A new post on Korean blog Naver states that Apple will release a new “iPad mini Pro” in the fall. The sketchy rumor claims the device will have an 8.7-inch display.
One leaker believes Apple won’t launch a new iPad mini in 2021 so the release is up in the air at this point.
- 12.9-inch edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display with ProMotion, True Tone, and P3 wide color
- A12Z Bionic chip with Neural Engine
- 12MP Wide camera, 10MP Ultra Wide camera, and LiDAR Scanner

Wait for Apple's March Event |

We don't have a definitive iPad mini 6 release date, but there's a chance it arrives in March alongside a new iPad Pro. Most of the information we've seen points to a launch in 2021, but we could certainly see the iPad mini 6 release take place in 2022. As of right now, the best case scenario is a launch during Apple's March launch window. And while there's no guarantee that happens, those of you interested in a new iPad mini might want to hang around and wait for Apple's to make its announcements. We don't have an official date yet (March 23rd looks good though it's not confirmed), but if Apple is planning to showcase new products in March, we should get an official date in the near future. If you're interested in a new iPad mini, think about waiting. |
